Two Big Changes for the 2017-18 FAFSA

  • FAFSA Opens Oct. 1
No need to wait until January — the 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will become available for students and parents on Oct. 1, 2016.
  • Use Your 2015 Income and Tax Information
Starting this year, students and parents will report tax information from a year earlier when completing the FAFSA. For the 2017-18 FAFSA, you will report 2015 income and tax information rather than 2016 information.

To offer students more time to explore and understand their financial aid options, the Office of Financial Aid will begin packaging Financial Aid Notifications (FANs) for continuing students during the spring 2017 semester. To ensure that you receive your FAN on time, we recommend that you file your 2017-18 FAFSA this fall.

Have Your FSA IDs Ready

Students and parents will need to have their FSA IDs and passwords available to complete the FAFSA online. You can retrieve your username/password information on the FSA ID login page.
