Student loan counseling is required by law for all Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized, Perkins, and Fedral Direct Graduate PLUS loan borrowers. The online counseling sessions inform borrowers about their rights and responsibilities under these loan programs, such as loan repayment and deferment options.

There are two types of loan counseling

• Entrance counseling is required for first-time borrowers and must be completed before any funds can be disbursed.
• Exit counseling is required whenever a borrower leaves school or drops below half-time enrollment.
