Financial Aid and Non-UT Scholarships
What is a Non-UT Scholarship?
- A Non-UT Scholarship may also be referred to as a private or an outside scholarship.
- These awards are typically earned after submitting an application and/or essay to a donor not affiliated with UT Austin.
- Federal law requires you to report your non-UT Scholarships to the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS). Students will be notified if their Non-UT Scholarship causes a revision to their financial aid. (For more information, see How Scholarships/Fellowships Affect Financial Aid.)

Can I pay my Tuition and Fee Bill with my Non-UT Scholarship?
Tuition and Fee bills may only be paid by Non-UT Scholarships if:
- The scholarship combined with other available financial aid will cover your entire bill
- AND
- OSFS has received the Non-UT Scholarship check and the check has been posted to your financial aid awards.
If my Tuition and Fee Bill is paid before my Non-UT Scholarship check is processed

Before disbursing funds, OSFS will apply your check to your outstanding UT debt (tuition,
on-campus housing). If you have no outstanding debt, OSFS will either issue you a paper
check or, if you have designated a bank
with Student Accounts Receivable,
by direct deposit.
