College Career Services Offices

The Texas Exes and some colleges also provide alumni career services. For a list of these offices, please visit the Students and Alumni Employment web site.
Texas Student Union Personnel Office
Located on the 4th floor of the Texas Student Union (on Guadalupe St. across from Barnes & Noble Bookstore.) This office posts jobs that are available within the Texas Union.
The Classified Ads
Updated daily, the classified ad sections of newspapers are an important resource for job seekers. The Daily Texan and the Austin American-Statesman list hundreds of jobs each day. In addition, the Austin American-Statesman produces Job Source, a free weekly publication listings all areas of employment.
Personnel Offices
Many organizations, such as factories, banks, hospitals, hotels, and large companies, have Personnel/Human Resources Offices for hiring and so do not advertise job vacancies. To be considered for employment, students must submit the specific company’s job application. Some restaurants, stores, and small businesses do not have a Personnel Office, but do require job seekers to file a job application. It is impossible to make the rounds of every Personnel Office in Austin, so students should be selective in companies they choose to visit. Things to consider: the location of the company, the type of work, and the work hours available.
Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)
The TWC is a State agency for use by American citizens, permanent residents or work-authorized foreign students with the proper documentation. TWC posts full- and part-time jobs of all types. Students may examine current job listings and pursue openings at the TWC office. TWC is a referral service only, and the user is responsible for making and following up on employer contacts. For more information, call the TWC at (800) 832-2829.
WorkInTexas.com (Formerly known as The Governor’s Job Bank)
Another free service posting both full-and part-time State of Texas job openings. The computer-assisted system matches a job seeker’s interests and abilities with current openings in the local Austin area. Interested students should go to the WorkInTexas.com web site.
