Finding a Work-Study Job
We encourage students to begin looking for their Work-Study (WS) job as early as
May, assuming they have ACCEPTED the Work-Study award on their Financial Aid Notification (FAN) and submitted
it to OSFS.
Before beginning a job search, students must visit the OSFS web site and
click on CASH, then select
the "Work-Study Counseling" link. This counseling module provides
more information about the Work-Study program. Through the module,
students obtain their Work-Study Verification, which is required
documentation for the job interview. NOTE:
Employers will not conduct an interview without the award verification!
There are several ways to look for a Work-Study job, but the most popular
is the Hirealonghorn.org
job bank, a comprehensive listing of current Work-Study job postings.
All admitted and currently enrolled UT Austin students may search for
jobs on the job bank, but only students who have a current Work-Study
award may search for Work-Study jobs. To login, students simply enter
their UT EID and password (the first time you log in, it's your Date of
Birth in MM/DD/YYYY format). After successfully logging in, students
can (1) complete a Personal Profile Sheet; (2) search for WS jobs;
and (3) correspond by e-mail with prospective employers.
Students may also visit offices or departments on-campus, if there is a
specific office in which they would like to work. Departments and offices
may have job openings that have not yet been advertised.
If a student has not found a Work-Study job by the beginning of the
fall semester, he or she should attend the Work-Study Job Fair, held
each year at the end of August. Students should watch for e-mail and/or
postal notices about the date and location of the Job Fair.
Once a student finds a job he or she is interested in, the employer
should be contacted to set up an interview. If hired,
the employer will require that the student complete "new hire"
paperwork, including the I-9.
