For Continuing Students: Your 2011-2012 Financial Aid
An Open Letter to UT Austin's Continuing Students:
The Office of Student Financial Services understands how important it is for
you and your families to know what grant, loan and scholarship resources will
be available to you as you make your plans for Fall and Spring semesters.
However, we cannot provide you a Fall-Spring financial aid package at this
time, as we are in the midst of significant changes both at the federal and
state levels. Congress and the Texas Legislature respond to calls for
significant cuts in government programs, and therefore have not yet made
decisions about funding levels for several financial aid programs — most
importantly Pell Grants, TEXAS Grants, Top 10% Scholarships, and B-on-Time Loans.
Unfortunately, this means your financial aid award notification for Fall and
Spring semesters could be delayed until as late as July 1, after Congress and
the Texas Legislature make funding decisions.
If you plan to attend Summer school, we expect to be able to provide you with
a Summer award estimate in April. This is because Summer financial aid is
derived from monies allocated for the current academic year.
We are working very hard to get resolution on these important financial aid
programs. Be assured that if decisions affecting your financial aid occur,
we will provide you with revised information as it becomes available. We are
committed to your success as a student and will do everything we can to
provide you resources to support your enrollment.
Please feel free to contact our office if you have questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Tom Melecki, PhD
