Release of Your Spring 2012 Financial Aid
Questions?
Ask Finaid!
When will my financial aid release?
Approximately one week before the first class day of each semester, the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) begins releasing financial aid funds for University of Texas at Austin students. OSFS continues to release financial aid funds every weeknight throughout the semester.

How do I get my financial aid?
  • UT Austin debt (i.e. tuition and on-campus housing) is paid first. Remaining funds, if any, are then released to you (the student).
  • Direct deposit (if set up) or
  • Paper Check (mailed to either the local or permanent address on file.)

Why hasn't my financial aid released?
Check CASH for any outstanding requirements you may have. Here are just a few of the common reasons that delay financial aid funds:
  • Your local address needs to be updated.
  • Your Spring enrollment is less than full-time.
    • For Undergraduates: Full-time enrollment is defined as 12 credit.
    • For Graduates: Full-time enrollment is defined as 9 credit hours (enrollment status may vary among graduate colleges/departments; check with your academic advisor to determine the number of hours for which you should be registered.)
  • Student Loan Entrance Counseling needs to be completed.
  • Master Promissory Note(s) (MPN) need(s) to be signed.
    • An MPN is the legal agreement between a student (or parent) borrower and the lender that the borrower will repay a loan. The MPN must be signed by the borrower before loan funds can be disbursed.
    • The MPN message will remain on CASH until UT Austin originates your loan. If you are uncertain whether you have signed your MPN, contact the Department of Education at (800) 557-7394. If you have already signed your MPN, disregard the message in CASH./li>
  • You have Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.

Some of my financial aid has released but not all of it!
We release your funds as they become available. Not all types of financial aid will release on the same day, or even in the same week. This is not an indication that something is wrong, and is most of the time just normal processing.

I'm not enrolled full time. Can I still get my financial aid?
Are you enrolling in at least 6 hours? If so, the answer is likely a yes. If you have not already done so, you will need to notify OSFS so that we can make the necessary adjustments to release your financial aid.
Please be aware that a few financial aid programs require full time enrollment so we cannot guarantee your financial aid package will remain the same.

What if I need more financial aid?
If you think you need additional funding, take a look at these additional loan options and contact our office if you're interested:
