Newly Admitted Out-of-State and Graduate Students:
2012-2013 Financial Aid Repackaged Due to Tuition Increase
2012-2013 Financial Aid Repackaged Due to Tuition Increase
The University of Texas System Board of Regents recently approved a tuition increase of
2.1% and 3.6% for out-of-state and graduate students, respectively. In order to accommodate
any unmet need stemming from the tuition increase, the OSFS will make revisions to applicable
financial aid packages in the following manner:
- If your new tuition amount results in an increase to your financial need and you have not been offered your maximum Federal Direct Subsidized Loan for which you are eligible, we will automatically increase that award.
- If you were initially awarded a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, our office may replace all or a portion of that loan with the need-based, lower interest Subsidized loan where federal law permits.
- If you were already awarded up to your Subsidized Loan eligibility or you are not eligible for this loan, Unsubsidized and Federal PLUS Loans are the only forms of additional aid that our office may offer.
Note: While we will automatically repackage to award subsidized loans, unsubsidized and
PLUS loans will be repackaged by request only. These loans have many advantages for
borrowers. However, they are the most expensive federal loans because of their relatively
high interest rates and interest accrues while you are in school. We are willing to
increase these loans whenever the law allows however, we want to do so only after students
carefully consider their need to take on more unsubsidized and PLUS debt.
Receiving Notification of Financial Aid Revisions
Subsidized loan revisions will take place mid to late-June and will be available via
Financial Aid Notification (FAN) in CASH. Additional amounts offered may
be accepted, declined or reduced.
