Release of Fall 2012 Financial Aid
Questions?
Ask Finaid!
When will my financial aid release?
Approximately one week before the first class day of each semester, the Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) begins releasing financial aid funds for students. OSFS continues to release financial aid funds every weeknight throughout the semester.
**If you are enrolled in Summer classes, your Fall funds may be held until after Summer grades are posted.

How do I get my financial aid?
UT Austin debt (i.e. tuition, on-campus housing and any other debt showing on What I Owe) is paid first. Remaining funds, if any, are then released to the student via:
  • Direct Deposit. Funds may take 2-3 business days before becoming available in your bank account; or
  • Paper Check (mailed to either the local or permanent address on file). It can take up to 10 business days for delivery of check. You can monitor via Where's My Check? through UT Direct.

Why hasn't my financial aid released?
Check CASH for any outstanding requirements you may have. Here are a few reasons why your funds may be on hold:
  • Your local address needs to be updated.
  • Your Fall enrollment is less than full-time.
    • Undergraduates: Full-time enrollment is defined as 12 credit hours.
    • Graduates: Full-time enrollment is defined 9 credit hours (enrollment status may vary among graduate departments.)
  • You have loan requirements that you have not yet satisfied in CASH.
  • You have outstanding Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
  • You have not activated your current Financial Aid Notification (FAN).
  • You reported changes on your recently submitted Financial Aid Notification (FAN), which require a review by a Financial Aid Counselor and may take a few weeks once completed.
  • You have a bar with our office. This requires a Financial Aid Counselor to review your file and may take a few weeks once the bar is posted.

Some of my financial aid has released but not all of it!
  • We release your funds as they become available. Not all types of financial aid will release on the same day, or even in the same week. This is not an indication that something is wrong and is generally normal processing.
  • Direct Loan origination fees affect the actual amount of your loan. The 1% fee for Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans and 4% fee for Parent/Graduate PLUS Loans are subtracted from your original awarded amount.
  • If you are waiting on an outside scholarship, OSFS cannot release the scholarship until we have received a check from the donor. Please contact the donor if you are still waiting on a check to be sent to OSFS.

I'm not enrolled full time. Can I still get my financial aid?
Are you enrolling in at least 6 hours? If so, you may be eligible for financial aid. If you have not already done so, you will need to notify OSFS so that we can make the necessary adjustments to release financial aid.
Please be aware that a few financial aid programs require full time enrollment so we cannot guarantee your financial aid package will remain the same.

What if I need more financial aid?
If you think you need additional funding, review these additional loan options and contact our office if you are interested:
