NEW SCAM ALERT!
The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD), Friday, February 12, 2016

This scam targets UT students specifically. If you receive a call from someone saying they are from UT Financial Aid demanding money by meeting someone or sending a wire transfer, HANG UP. No one from the university would ask for payment in that way.

The scammers can make it look like the call is from a UT number and then they send an email supposedly from President Greg Fenves. President Fenves will never send you an email demanding payment on your accounts.

Any time you get a call demanding payment in this way for any reason, hang up and dial 911 to report the fraud attempt.

Also, UTPD encourages all students to go here to restrict the info published about you in the UT Directory: Restrict My Info

The directory is where the scammers get your contact information. Only you can decide what you want published in the directory.
