Message from the Director
Welcome to the Office of Student Financial Services' web site. Our mission is to help you and other students become academically
successful Longhorns who benefit from UT’s world-class learning opportunities. So
whether you are a current or prospective student, please know that we are working on
your behalf.
If you are one of the 33,000 UT students who need help to pay your educational expenses,
we understand that you face challenging times. Significant economic changes recently
led Congress and the Texas Legislature to cut financial aid appropriations. So grant
funding has been reduced for students at all colleges and universities despite these
bodies’ best efforts to minimize such cuts.
Nonetheless, UT students receive more than $500 million a year in financial aid. Our
office manages over 240 grant, scholarship, loan, and work-study job programs.
Merit-based scholarships through our office and UT’s academic departments serve over
11,000 students a year.
We have designed this web site to help you do many things:
- Ensure timely delivery of your aid by completing key requirements on-line;
- Seek scholarships through our Texas Scholarships web site;
- Use our Hire a Longhorn service to find part-time and seasonal employment opportunities;
- Access our BEVOnomics programs to better manage your money and credit;
- Understand dates and processes related to financial aid;
- Make informed decisions about the types of financial aid we offer you; and
- Link to other useful web sites.
Despite shrinking grant programs, our goal is to award you the best possible aid
package, and to provide the financial advice and education you need to persist at
UT, graduate from UT, and flourish as an ex-student.
Hook ‘Em,
Tom Melecki, PhD
